“The first-born in every family is always dreaming for an imaginary older brother or sister who will look out for them.” – Bill Cosby
The bond between two siblings is something that is almost indescribable. Depending on the kind of relationship you have with your siblings, you either want to kill them or you want to be around them all of the time. Most of the time this can fluctuate and change as you grow from children to adults. Either way, no sibling relationship is the same, so they cannot be fully described. But what we do know is it is typically a bond that cannot be broken and can only be understood by those who have truly experienced that special kind of bond.
“Is solace anywhere more comforting than in the arms of a sister?” – Alice Walker
I am sure there is a moment in time that you can only describe as a moment of that love/hate relationship between you and your sister. A sister is the only person in the world that you can love immensely but also want to strangle. They are your best friend and your worst enemy, they make you laugh and they make you cry all in one sitting. That sister is who you turn to when the going gets tough and no one else in the world could possibly understand what you are going through.
As children you probably didn’t get along, you fought over toys, boys, and the bathroom. But as you grow older you realize the true connection that you have with her. Going through every aspect of your childhood with someone can really make you grow closer as adults. You understand each other, and you are the best of friends.
“Sometimes being a brother is even better than being a superhero.” – Marc Brown
Having a big brother can mean you have a big protector. A little brother can mean you have a big pain in the rear end. Nonetheless, it’s all a beautiful experience. A brother tends to be the protector, becomes very defensive of younger siblings. They may meet your date at the door just to scare him a little. Whatever it is they do, they do it out of unconditional love.
When you were kids you probably looked up to your older brother and wanted to be just like him. He would get annoyed with you and tell you to go away, or he would embrace your presence and enjoy your company. Both were done out of love.
Having a sibling can be the best thing in the world and sometimes the worst. But as you grow to be adults, you learn how important it is to cherish your sibling, because they will always be there for you in the end.
